The journey that began in top-rated, best-selling Bright Side, continues ...
This is the story of Gus.
Losing himself.
Finding himself.
And healing along the way.
“ … but the honest-to-God truth is I don’t even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn’t only my best friend; she was like my other half ... the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before when half of you is gone forever?”
"I don't want to be outside. I don't want to be inside. I'm at the point where I just…don't. I know that doesn't make any fucking sense, but it's how I feel. I don't."
Gus picks up right where Bright Side leaves off and we are taken on the journey of grief Gus is going through. The first part of the book is so devastatingly sad because you see Gus spiraling and want so badly to help him. He's such a good guy!
This one reads sort of like a diary. Some chapters are half pages or very short, making it a quick and easy read. All of the beloved characters from Bright Side make an appearance and you learn a lot more about Keller, Stella, and especially Audrey.
This was a slooooooow burn but in the best way possible. Scout is amazing and really has a ton in common with Kate even though they never met.
This is definitely a book I don't want to ruin with spoilers so I'm going to leave it at this but if you liked Bright Side and want more Gus or like books about bands, go read this one! There's a ton of wisdom mixed in between the pages of this beautiful story.
"There's something epic that happens every day if you look hard enough for it. And every day is a chance to go out there and do epic."
