When it came to Romeo and Juliet, a kiss was never just a kiss.
She was untainted. I wanted to desecrate her.
She was flawless. I wanted to ruin her.
She was light. I wanted to drag her into the darkness.
She was forbidden. I took her anyway.
I crossed a line and started a war. Both of our families were out for blood.
The only question is, who will bleed first?
My thoughts:
This was a book from my 12 Challenge. I was actually just given Delaney Foster as the suggestion so I found one of hers that was on KU and decided on this one. I mean, the cover model looks like Jensen Ackles so, why not!? I knew this was a dark romance but I had been wanting to dip my toes in that genre so I figured this would be a good place to start. Wrong! It's not my cup of tea.
All genre bias aside, it was a pretty good book. The writing was intriguing and I'd honestly like to try another book by Foster to see if I like it better.
It started out with her being 6 and him being 10 then she's 16 and he's 20 and they're doing it. Soooo that was a little cringy. He supposedly ruined intimacy with anyone else for her but just doing it that one time and taking her virginity. I mean, ego, much?
I did not like how at times the spicy parts felt forced. She would legit say "no" and he's all "you know you want it" but then it would be her point of view and you could see that she did kind of want it. I don't know, it was confusing. I also felt like she took the conspiracies of 2020 and a major secret alleged organization that I don't want to name because I don't want to be flagged (between P and R) and made a dark romance of that.
The twist at the end though, damn!
Would I suggest it? Yes, to the right person but, again, not my cup of tea just because I'm not into that kind of romance.
