Cheers! To a New Beginning!

It's 2023! Is it me or ever since 2020, the years seem to fly by? I feel as though I was just starting my reading journey at the beginning of 2022 and now we're here, 85 books, a Bookstagram, and a blog later.

I'll be covering the yearly challenges and goals I'm setting in another post, but I wanted to take a moment and highlight what I have planned for January. My ambitious self signed up for too many ARCs, book clubs, and buddy reads so I'll be a busy little bee!

The Hustler Next Door

by K.A. Tucker

ARC read with Valentine PR

Out 1.3.2022

I've read The Simple Wild by Tucker and absolutely loved it so I had to jump on this one when I saw it was available as an ARC. See my review here on 1.3.2023.

Justine MacDermott is in what she would call a transition period: squatting in her best friend’s house and working in an appliance store in Polson Falls while the man she was supposed to marry starts a new life with someone else.

When newcomer Garrett Harrington strolls into Murphy’s Appliances looking to buy a refrigerator, Justine convinces herself she’s found her rebound. Or the next love of her life. Either works. But a chance encounter leads her to discover that Garrett isn’t who he made himself out to be, and he’s more interested in hustling her kindly old boss out of his family business—and using her to do it.

It’s all going to plan … until Justine finds herself crossing enemy lines.

River of Ashes

by Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor

Book Tour with Katieandbreypa and Vesuvian Media

Pub date: 8.2.2022

When I saw that it was set on the Bogue Falaya River, I had to jump on it. The Bogue Falaya river is where I grew up and we went there monthly for outdoor concerts and events with friends. It's where some of my happiest childhood memories take place - and one really bad one involving a huge splinter and an old wooden playground! Add in psychological thriller and I'm sold. Book two out 1.31.2023

ALONG THE BANKS OF THE BOGUE FALAYA RIVER, sits the abandoned St. Francis Seminary. Beneath a canopy of oaks, blocked from prying eyes, the teens of St. Benedict High gather here on Fridays. The rest of the week belongs to school and family—but weekends belong to the river.

And the river belongs to Beau Devereaux.

As the victim toll mounts, it becomes clear that someone must stop Beau Devereaux.

And that someone will pay with their life.

To Kill A Mockingbird

by Harper Lee

Book club pick with @samstacksbooksbookclub

Part of the 12 Classics in 12 months challenge

You know, I've never actually read this book. Never had to in high school. I'm glad this is a part of Sam's 12 Classics in 12 Months challenge and it will also be another paperback read for me, which is exciting since I usually mostly read ebooks.

Bright Side

by Kim Holden

Chosen by @meganclibrary for my 12 Books in 12 Months Recommended by 12 Friends challenge and a Buddy Read with @running_off_to_read and @amkreads

I've seen this one around lately so I was excited when it was recommended for the challenge and even more excited when I saw some Booksta friends doing a buddy read for it.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all, she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). She’s quick-witted, endlessly passionate about music, the first to offer a smile, and the kind of loyal that most friends only dream about. The one thing that escapes her optimism is love. She’s never bought into it, never believed in it. So, when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall hard for Keller Banks.

In An Instant

By Suzanne Redfearn

January pick for the @samstacksbooksbookclub

I'm ashamed to say I've had this on my kindle since February 1, 2020, meaning it probably was an Amazon First Reads pick for me that month, and I have yet to read it so when I saw it was the January pick for Sam's book club, I had to jump on it!

Life is over in an instant for sixteen-year-old Finn Miller when a devastating car accident tumbles her and ten others over the side of a mountain. Suspended between worlds, she watches helplessly as those she loves struggle to survive.

Heartrending yet ultimately redemptive, In an Instant is a story about the power of love, the meaning of family, and carrying on…even when it seems impossible.
